2XU Triathlon Series kicks off a summer of Tri

Elwood came to life this morning as Race 1 of the 2XU Triathlon Series officially kicked off the 2019-20 Victorian triathlon season.

Close to 2000 competitors braced Melbourne’s elements to challenge themselves across various distances including Kids Triathlon, Fun Triathlon and Sprint events.

With the water temperature sitting at 14.7 it was wetsuits on for the competition, which got underway at 7:00 am. The Kids Triathlon opened Victoria’s longest-running triathlon series, followed by the Fun Triathlon and the main event, the Sprint Series, at 8:40 am.

In the men’s and women’s elite, Marcel Walkington and Emma Hogan took top honours with a time 0:55:21.9 and 1:03:07.8 respectivly.
While in the junior elite, young guns Nick Frisby (0:57:22.9) and Ola Evans (1:14:54.3) took home a gold medal. See below for all results from the morning.

The 2XU Triathlon Series is open to anyone who wishes to challenge themselves at Victoria’s longest-running triathlon series.

The next event will be Race 2 at Sandringham on December 8, 2019. This event also inlcudes Olympic distance (1.5km/40km/10km) and is a Victorian State Series event and Age Group ITU World Championship Qualifying Race.

The Victorian State Series (State Series) title is awarded to both individuals (State Series Award) and clubs/squads (State Series Shield) based on results from selected multisport events across that season.

With season passes proving popular this year, make sure you lock in your place at the start line for the following events.
