HTC leading the way to support women and girls

Hawthorn Triathlon Club is making its move to promote gender equality in sport, forming its first Women in HTC Working Group.

Chaired by club member Mardi Cuthbert, the group consists of five female leaders within our club who will work to provide more inclusive club practices to support women and girls.
One of the group’s key goals is to promote both the social and competitive aspects of triathlon, focusing on what suits women concerning their time commitments to family, work and themselves, physiology, and motivation.

Recently the club held its first women’s event, a dinner and networking event on the benefit of training for female physiology and the unique challenges women face in training and racing triathlon, which included presentations by professional triathlete Grace Thek and HTC Coach and sports physiotherapist Sarah Treloar.

The free event, subsidised by HTC, showcases the value the committee places in supporting women’s health and well-being and an example of the small ways clubs can provide more to welcome, encourage and support women within the sport.
